Camping in Cuba

Posted May 21, 2006 by publisher in Cuba Travel.

President Fidel Castro said that camping facilities in Cuba do not have a profit motive but are instead geared for the population’s educational and recreational benefit.

The Cuban leader addressed a celebration for the 25th anniversary of the Popular Camping Program, attended by leaders of the Young Communist League, university students, social workers among others.

Fidel pointed out that the program provides Cubans with a well organized and healthy way to enjoy their holidays.

The Cuban leader praised the work of the personnel in charge of the program, mainly young people.

He noted: “we are attending to this recreational activity and we will continue to do so and better,” adding that the population will also have more knowledge and culture.

Fidel Castro said the Revolution is beginning to contribute additional resources to the camping program along with the prioritized sectors like health, education, the development of computer science and food production.

After referring to some of the benefits that the Cuban people are enjoying in these and other areas, Fidel stressed that many of the advances seen today are a result of ideas that came out of the time of economic hardships in the early 1990s when many people thought the Revolution would disappear.

He highlighted the measures adopted in the financial arena like the substitution of the dollar for the convertible Cuban peso, and also in the social services with the training of over 20,000 social workers.

The president stressed that in Cuba the ideas of the Revolution are transformed into better health, longer life and greater happiness for the country’s citizens.

The national celebration for the 25th anniversary of the People’s Camping Program was held at the Los Cocos installation located on the northern coast of Havana, one of the newest and most comfortable sites built during the existence of the program.
