Cuba’s Sugar Tourism Attracts Many Foreign Vacationers
Havana.- The tourist offer “Tras las Huellas del Az˙car” (Following Sugar’s Imprints) in eastern Ciego de Avila province is one of the most demanded options in Jardines del Rey.

According to sources from the leisure industry, one of the main attractions of the program is a trip on a train pulled by a steam locomotive to a countryside spot known as Rancho Palma.

The excursion puts vacationers in direct contact with Cuba’s sugar industry and gives them the chance to learn about every aspect of sugar production, from planting to the industrial process.

In the museum, tourists can observe an 18-century sugar mill, the first piece of equipment used in Cuba to produce sugar.

They are also briefed on the region’s history, culture and sugar traditions, and can enjoy cultural offers linked to the country’s customs.

More than 14,800 foreign vacationers enjoyed this tourist option in 2003.
