Havana.- Cayo Largo del Sur, a tourist destination south of Cuba, reported a record hotel occupancy rate of 93 percent for the ongoing peak season.
According to preliminary figures, in early 2004, Cayo Largo del Sur also reported the highest number of tourists-days, a clear sign of the region’s recovery.

The peak tourist season began in mid-December with eight international flights from Canada and Italy, which will continue to operate until March, allowing the presence of over 1,600 tourists-days in that destination.

Cayo Largo del Sur has 1,000 rooms, thanks to the partial opening of the Barcelo Beach Resort Hotel, which will be completed in February.

The Ministry of Tourism expects 1,200 hotel rooms to be in operation in Cayo Largo this year.
