CIEGO DE ÁVILA - A group of 30 tourists
from the United States stayed last week at the Sol Club Cayo Coco, a hotel
operated by the Spanish company Sol Meliá,  according to several workers
at the facility.

The tourists were traveling together in a tour put together by the Sol
Meliá organization. A worker at the hotel said the company had “found a
way” to attract American tourists to the island, in spite of the U. S.
treasury ban on travel there.

The Americans’ visit was not without incident, however. “The place was
crawling with State Security agents. They are always trying to attract
American tourists, and when they finally come, there is panic,” said a
hotel worker.

The Sol Club is on Cayo Coco, one of the keys just off the north coast
of the Cuban province of Ciego de Ávila. A number of tourist
installations have been recently developed in Cayo Coco and adjacent keys.
