Cuban Beach Resort of Varadero Reports Good Results

Havana.- The Cuban beach resort of Varadero, in western Matanzas province, has reported favorable results in management during the first ten months of 2003.

According to sources from the tourism sector, some 620,000 foreign vacationers visited Varadero during the said period, a 15-percent increase compared to last year.

Revenues increased by 24 percent and profits rose by 44 percent, with a cost of 79.2 cents per dollar earned.

In late October, Varadero reported 22 million dollars more in profits, compared to the same month in 2002, and there are prospects for an increase during the peak tourist season.

Varadero has 14,000 rooms distributed in 50 hotels, most of which are four- and five-star establishments.
