Havana.- The tourist region of Holguín, in eastern Cuba, has consolidated its position in the leisure industry of the largest Antillean Island.

The said province, considered the third major destination in Cuba, has 4,800 hotel rooms for international tourism.

Some 3,000 rooms are distributed in five- and four-star hotels in the beach resorts of Guardalavaca, Esmeralda and Pesquero.

Holguín boasts natural resources and an excellent infrastructure that allows diversifying the region’s offers to compete against other destinations in Cuba and the Caribbean.

According to official predictions, the region is expected to receive over 270,000 vacationers from Germany, Canada, Great Britain, Argentina, France and Mexico, among other markets, by 2005.
