Havana.- Cuba’s tourism sector reported a 15-percent growth during the first eight months of this year, compared to the same period in 2002.
Authorities from the leisure industry recalled that the one-million-vacationer mark was reached in late June, a month earlier compared to 2002.
Short-term prospects are favorable, since Cuba was recently presented as China’s major destination in the Americas.
In addition, new hotels will be completed this year, including the Yaraguanal Hotel, in eastern Holguín province.
Other facilities that will open this year are the second Maravilloso Hotel, in Cayo Santamaría, Bucanero I, in Cayo Largo del Sur, and another establishment in the so-called Blue Beach, Varadero, which is considered Cuba’s major beach resort.
