DTC News.- Sol Meliá Sets Eyes on Cuban Keys

Havana.- The Spanish hotel group Sol Meliá, which has been present in the Cuban market since 1990, has set eyes on the Caribbean island’s keys, where it plans to open new establishments.

Sources from the Spanish consortium said that the Meliá Cayo Santa María Hotel would open in central Villa Clara province by this year’s end.

The 360-room hotel has been designed to receive couples and families, and will join the Sol Cayo Santa María Hotel in that same place.

Including the new hotel, Sol Meliá has 9,000 rooms in Cuba, most of them on the northern and southern keys, accounting for 22 percent of Cuba’s total hotel infrastructure.

For the 2003-2004 winter season, eight hotels will operate under the Meliá brand, and a similar number of establishments will bear the Sol label. The group will also have two hotels under the Paradisus brand and three bearing the Tryp Hoteles label.

Investments in the tourist resort of Cayo Santa María focus on the construction of a town that will recreate the Spanish-colonial architectural style of the village of Remedios.
