Havana.- The excursion “Tras las huellas del azúcar” (Following Sugar’s Imprints) has attracted many vacationers visiting the tourist resort of Jardines del Rey, in Cuba’s eastern province of Ciego de Avila.

Tourist officials in the region pointed out that during the first few months of 2003, over 2,000 vacationers have enjoyed that option.

The excursion consists of a five-kilometer tour on a two-coach train pulled by an 80-year-old steam locomotive in a perfect state of preservation, so tourists can get first-hand information about the Island’s main economic sector.

Vacationers can also enjoy the beauty of Cuba’s countryside and visit an ancient sugar mill turned into a historic and cultural complex, a crocodile farm and a countryside restaurant known as Rancho Palma.

In 2002, this excursion, promoted by the travel agency Cubanacán Viajes, was a best seller abroad, was enjoyed by 8,000 vacationers, and brought revenues of nearly 500,000 dollars.
