Havana.- Cuba’s leisure industry, the fastest-growing sector in the Island’s economy, is expected to report an increase of 12.7 percent in tourist arrivals this year.

According to official predictions, the largest Antillean Island will receive 1.9 million vacationers in 2003.

Last year, 1,686,162 travelers visited Cuba, and the hotel occupancy rate is expected to rise to 61.7 percent this year.

Tourist authorities pointed out that revenues are likely to grow by 15.2 percent, and profits will be higher than last year’s.

Results during the first few months of 2003 lead to a significant recovery in the tourist industry, which has experienced a sustained growth during the past ten years.

Cuba’s working strategy makes emphasis on efficiency and contingency plans to counter crises.
