Havana.- The Guanahacabibes peninsula, in Cuba’s westernmost tip, could become one of the most attractive tourist destinations on the largest Antillean Island.

Experts from the tourist sector pointed out that development projects include works in seven areas where 1,500 hotel rooms will be built.
They added that tourist authorities would prioritize the promotion of services for tourist maritime navigation in the areas near that territory.

Guanahacabibes, declared a Biosphere Reserve in 1987 and a National Park in 2001, holds Cuba’s largest forest and lake reserves.

Tourist activity in the region includes the development of such destinations as Marķa la Gorda and Las Tumbas, although the program does not include a dozen beaches, which have been reserved for fauna development and reproduction.

Among the major investments made in the Guanahacabibes peninsula is the construction of 20 cabins at the Marķa la Gorda International Diving Center.

In addition, experts are working to expand telephone, power and water services.
