Sydney, New York, Bali and Cuba are among the winners of Travel & Leisure magazine’s eighth annual “World’s Best” awards.
The rankings include some other surprising choices in addition to the inclusion of the Indonesian island less than a year after a terrorist attack there killed 202 people. Cuba was named best island in the Caribbean, and Istanbul, Turkey, and Santa Fe, N.M., debuted on the magazine’s Top 10 list of the world’s great cities.
Sydney, Australia, won top honors in that category, with the Big Apple taking the No. 1 spot for cities in the United States and Canada. Florence, Italy, was named top city in Europe; Cape Town won the blue ribbon for cities in Africa and the Middle East; and Rio de Janiero, Brazil, took first place for Latin America.
The awards recognize readers’ favorite hotels, cities, islands, tour outfitters, airlines, cruise lines and rental car agencies.
Complete results are featured in the magazine’s August issue.
