Road Scholar, Fuego Enterprises, Inc., and OnCuba Magazine are pleased to announce their collaboration to offer educational travel programs to Cuba with an emphasis on the rise of free enterprise.
Recent government reforms are now allowing individuals within Cuba, the opportunity to form and openly operate new business ventures for the first time since 1959.
Participants on this special travel adventure will be among the first to experience Cuba as it balances between the old era of restricting business and the new era of supporting business creation.
Road Scholar is authorized to operate and offer cross-cultural, lifelong learning experiences to Cuba under a People-to-People educational license issued by the U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC License #CT-19201-2.).
During exclusive people-to-people activities, participants will meet the Cuban people who are taking these pioneering steps toward practicing free enterprise in Cuba today, and learn first-hand the challenges and opportunities that these business entrepreneurs face each day.
Highlights of the program include:
• Visiting the International School of Film and TV and a recording studio to speak with Cuban students, instructors and musicians, to experience their creative energy and to examine the opportunities for these artists to export their art.
• Dining at several privately owned paladars, independently operated restaurants, to meet with owners and staff to discuss both the opportunities and challenges of operating a restaurant in Cuba.
• Traveling to the new deep water container port in Mariel to meet the architectural and construction team, to learn about the project and to examine the impact of a deep water port for Cuba, and the countries that trade with Cuba.
• Visiting Habanos, the leader of Cuba’s cigar industry to meet with cigar experts for a discussion on the business of marketing Cuban cigars internationally and how this will change if and when the U.S. embargo ends.
• Exploring a sugar refinery to meet with the managers and staff of the sugar mill to learn about the history of sugar production, and to discuss present-day operations and how they might evolve.
