A new marina, first of its kind in the country, was opened this week in the municipality of Gibara, Holguin. This is part of the activities to celebrate the 27th anniversary of the introduction of camping in Cuba as a popular recreational activity.
The marina, located at “Bayado” beach, has 42 aquatic media, donated by the Ministry of the Interior, which will be operated in Cuban currency. The lot is made up of boats, sails, aquatic bikes, and a Catamaran and kayak platform. The acquisition of diving equipment and incorporation of a food service in the recreational area are also planned.
The nautical club will be open to all. Rental prices for the nautical facilities do not exceed 1.50 Cuban pesos per hour. In the case of foreigners, they will be charged the equivalent of 1 Cuban convertible peso per Cuban peso.
Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez, member of the Political Bureau and first secretary of Communist Party in Holguin, among other top officials from the province, attended the opening ceremony.

This bodes well, doesn’t it? Granted, it would be expensive for a Cuban family to holiday here but still within reach for at least some Cubans. Especially those in Holguin.

Unfortunately a lot needs changing, which hopefully teh governement will be tackling also, but every little bit helps, and for a family to actually enjoy a weekend or a holiday is actually a lot.
