Havana.- The tourist resort of Marea del Portillo, in eastern Granma province, will increase the number of hotel rooms for foreign travelers.

According to Cuban tourism authorities, the number of rooms will be increased to 450, twice as much as today accommodation capacity.

The project is scheduled to begin in the next few months and will consist of two stages. The first stage includes the construction of 70 rooms in bungalows.

The reduced number of rooms prevents the reception of more foreign vacationers in that resort, located in the municipality of Pilon, on Granma’s south coast.

The development of the leisure industry in Granma is based on improving the province’s tourist product by incorporating new tourist options such as nature, culture and history, in addition to sun and beach.

That region holds the Sierra Maestra mountain range, the country’s major mountainous area, which boasts a wide range of climates and soils.
