Havana.- Eastern Holguín province, one of Cuba’s fastest-growing destinations, has reported an increase in tourist arrivals this year.
According to local authorities, tourist arrivals from January to September 2003 grew by 38 percent, compared to the same period last year.

During the said period, 140,000 foreign vacationers enjoyed Holguín’s hotels, beaches and other services and facilities, a considerable increase compared to the entire 2002.

Experts predicted that as of November, when the peak tourist season begins, an average of 50 flights a week would arrive at Frank País International Airport from about 20 cities from all over the world, mainly from Europe.

The Gran Occidental Playa Turquesa Hotel will open in Holguín in November, so the number of hotels in the province will increase to 18.
