The Spanish group Iberostar Hotels and Resorts opened its fifth hotel in Cuba in the colonial city of Trinidad, 335 kilometers south east of Havana.

Located in the historic heat of the third village founded in Cuba, the Iberostar Grand Hotel Trinidad is the second five-star establishment run by the group in the Caribbean Island.

Iberostar runs 1,400 rooms in the Cuban destinations of Varadero, Cayo Coco and Trinidad, 426 of which are in five-star hotels and 966 in four-star establishments.

The building, which was completely remodeled, is an ideal place for those interested in visiting central Cuba and learning about the city’s architecture.

The Spanish group has 90 hotels, including 18 establishments in the Caribbean.

This hotel is something of an air-conditioned prison.  The staff are very friendly and helpful, and the breakfast is excellent, but the restaurant is over-priced. Considering it’s charges, the hotel offers very few facilities. It has no pool, and not one inch of outdoor sitting space.  The style is a rather pretentious Holiday-Inn type international format without elegance, charm or character. Fitting-out has been done to a high-ish spec, but the natural light is blocked out everywhere and 1000 light bulbs blaze throughout the day and night in the public areas. An environmental nightmare and probably only appealing to those nervous enough to pay $100 dollars a night to forget that they are in Cuba.
