Cuba’s Irish & Celtic Heritage April 14 – 21, 2013
Join FFRD in a unique journey of discovery of the Irish and Irish-American diaspora in Cuba (17th - 19th centuries), the birth place of the father of President Eamon de Valera, and the lively Celtic traditions from Asturia and Galicia.
Cuba’s history and culture offer an awesome mix with the craic of Havana’s fourth annual CeltFest of programmed concerts and informal sessions. Other People to People Cuba trips by FFRD
The Role of Tourism in Cuba’s Self-Sustaining Post-Embargo Development, May 5-11/15
We will organize a people to people program that offers an opportunity for US tour operators, schools of travel and hospitality, and travel agents to engage with Cuban counterparts about the way post embargo US tourism will impact the economy, culture and environment of the country.
Participants will meet tourism specialists from the Universities of Havana and Matanzas as well as key people in the receiving agencies currently working with licensed US visitors (Havanatur, San Cristobal, Amistur). They will visit the International Tourism Fair (FIT) in Varadero to observe how Cuba presents itself to the trade in Canada, Europe and Latin America and how market mechanisms operate for the rest of the world. The Fair also affords an opportunity to meet colleagues whose experience may offer insight for American companies when the embargo ends. Varadero itself offers one model of large scale engagement with the international market.
Our one week program will also include exploration of Habana Vieja with the Office of the Historian. Those able to devote additional time will be able to visit the distinctive venues of Cayo Santa Maria, Santa Clara, Trinidad and Cienfuegos.
Final Budget Trip, May 11-18
The last opportunity for a substance filled Cuba trip to explore contemporary Cuba at a special price of $1600, including air fare from Miami.
2nd Annual Orientation for Study Abroad Staff, Faculty Leaders & Third Party Providers, June 13-24
We will return to provincial universities to deepen the relationship begun in 2012: Matanzas, Santa Clara, Sancti Spiritus and Cienfuegos, adding (at Cuban suggestion) Ciego de Avila. Participants will meet with specialized universities in the Havana area and NGOs that can offer service learning opportunities. The trip is designed for schools considering both short term programs and development of partnerships and exchanges. Under our people to people license, spouses and representatives of third party providers are eligible to participate. Study Abroad information.
