ART FENNELL REPORTS FROM CUBA TO UNVEIL LIFE BEHIND THE ISLAND’S “MYSTERIOUS” CURTAIN
IN SERIES PREMIERING MONDAY, MARCH 12 AT 10 P.M. ON CN8, THE COMCAST NETWORK
As worldwide interest in Cuba grows amid speculation of Fidel Castro’s health and an evolving American-Cuban relationship, CN8’s veteran news journalist Art Fennell goes on-island to discover the people and culture of Cuba. In a four-part programming series premiering Monday, March 12 at 10 p.m. on “Art Fennell Reports,” Fennell explores Havana, Cuba’s countryside, its outlying towns and tourism destinations to uncover the images and public sentiment of the Cuban-American story. The series culminates with a one-hour special, “A Walk in Cuba: Behind the Mysterious Curtain,” coinciding with the 46th anniversary of the Bay of Pigs invasion in April.
“My time in Cuba was especially relevant given the imminent post-Castro regime and the U.S. government’s preparation for an expected mass emigration to our shores,” says Fennell, managing editor and anchor, “Art Fennell Reports.” “This special series will showcase a country that to this day remains largely unknown and share the story of the Cuban community.”
Fennell arrived in Cuba shortly before the country announced new foreign press limitations and asked several reporters to leave the country. His unique tour and coverage offers in-depth interviews and opinions from government officials, business owners, students, and other Cubans to uncover the country’s past, present and future.
Airing Monday, March 12 through Thursday, March 15 at 10 p.m. on “Art Fennell Reports,” Fennell presents his discoveries in the “Walk in Cuba” segments as follows:
Cuban Culture and People Monday, March 12, 10 p.m.
In this introduction to Cuba, Fennell explores the country’s transportation system, housing, struggling economy and continued anti-American sentiment.
Cuban Tourism Tuesday, March 13, 10 p.m.
Fennell sits down with the Cuban Minister of Tourism to examine the impact of the American embargo on the local economy.
Life After Castro Wednesday, March 14, 10 p.m.
Cuban youth and business owners discuss their leader’s declining health and share their hopes and fears for a post-Castro Cuba.
U.S. Students in Cuba Thursday, March 15, 10 p.m.
Nearly 100 U.S. citizens are pursuing degrees from Cuba’s Latin American School of Medicine. Fennell profiles students and spotlights the challenges and benefits of this free education.

Dear Mr. Fennell,
I was very interested to hear about your series on Cuba. My maternal grandfather arrived in the US in 1914 at the age of twenty six from Santiago, Cuba. He was a medical student and hoped to become a doctor. As fate would have it though, he met my grandmother in Baltimore, Maryland and eventually they married, but he would have to relinquish his dream of becoming a doctor. He became a citizen of the US and had three chidren. He had very little or no contact with his family in Cuba. Would there be anyway to trace my genealogy in Cuba? I would especially like to obtain information about my great grandparents. Any suggestions you could give me would be greatly appreciated.
