The Guanahacabibes Peninsula, in Cuba’s westernmost tip, is an excellent option for nature lovers.

The region, which covers an area of 1,000 square kilometers, holds the María La Gorda International Dive Center.

The peninsula also holds a 121,000-hectare Biosphere Reserve that includes a 39,901-hectare National Park and two Natural Reserves: Cabo Corrientes and El Veral.

The development strategy being implemented by local institutions is aimed at improving the environment by promoting sustainable tourism with the participation of local residents.

Diving, excursions, walks along ecological trails to watch the local flora and fauna, and excellent beaches are some of the options available for visitors.

The attractions of the Guanahacabibes Peninsula were presented to tour operators and visitors within the framework of the International Meeting on Nature Tourism TURNAT’2005, held in western Pinar del Río province.
