Havana.- The tourist group Gaviota S.A., one of Cuba’s major consortiums, will open new establishments this year.

The company, which owns 8,498 rooms for international tourism, inaugurated the 307-room Playa Coco Hotel.

Gaviota S.A. also inaugurated the Grand Lido Hotel, in Varadero Beach, in March. The establishment is run by the Jamaican chain SuperClubs.

The Monte Habana Aparthotel, located in the Havana neighborhood of Miramar, and 16 cabins at the Cabo de San Antonio Marina, in western Pinar del Río province, will start up operations during the second semester of 2004.

Gaviota expects to report an average 40-percent tourists/days growth this year, considering the 40-percent increase reported during the first quarter of 2004.

The group’s investment program for 2005 includes the modernization of its transport fleet and catamarans, as well as improvement of logistic services for tourism.

“Logistic services for tourism”

Interesting term. I am not familiar with the travel industry but this seems to be an interesting growth problem needing a solution.

Great ready American entreprenuers. There will be unlimited business opportunities in Cuba after the Embargo is lifted.

Cuba will require assistance with infrastructure, logistics, materials procurement etc.
