Press Release

Cuba Travel Services, Inc. (CTS) Direct Charter Company to Cuba to Expand Travel Services to Cuban-Americans and OFAC Licensed Travelers in Florida

With the increased demand for travel services to Cuba for Cuban Americans in the Florida region, Cuba Travel Services, Inc. will be opening new offices in Tampa, Florida providing travel services for Cuban Americans and licensed travelers who qualify under the current U.S. Treasury regulations. Cuba Travel Services, Inc. will formally unveil their new Tampa operations, providing a more direct route for Tampa constituents to travel to Cuba. Cuba Travel Services, Inc. operates under specific travel guidelines and criteria established by the U.S. Treasury and the U.S. Department of Transportation.

Currently, Tampa residents must travel to Miami to access the direct flights to Cuba, costing Tampa residents upwards of $350.00 roundtrip to Miami, in addition to added travel logistics and the flight costs to Cuba. By expanding their operations, Cuba Travel Services, Inc. will be able to offer a more cost-effective solution to residents in Tampa and the surrounding areas.

"We are very excited about expanding our travel services to residents outside of Miami, providing a substantial savings and easier travel access to Cuba. Particularly in light of the new regulations expanding travel to Cuban Americans,” said Michael Zuccato, General Manager of Cuba Travel Services, Inc. “Cuba Travel Services, Inc. hopes that the Bush administration will eventually allow direct flights from Tampa to Cuba. At present without such humanitarian flights, Cuban Americans in the Tampa region face economic and physical hardship in order to access the direct flights from Miami.”

The opening of direct flights from Tampa to Cuba should not be misconstrued as an opening in US Cuba Travel, but simply expanding on the humanitarian need for Cuban Americans, many of which are senior citizens who wish to visit their families. Cuba Travel Services, Inc. will work closely with local and federal elected officials on trying to make this humanitarian effort a reality, while working diligently within the community to better service those Cuban Americans and OFAC licensed passengers located in Tampa and the surrounding area.

In addition to servicing this large Florida constituency under the Office of Foreign Assets and Control and U.S. Treasury guidelines, Cuba Travel Services, Inc. will be able to provide a more accessible route and cost-effective travel services to journalists, government officials, sports teams, religious organizations, educational facilities that qualify under a general license and organizations and individuals who qualify for and are issued a specific license to travel. Since 2000, Cuba Travel Services, Inc. has provided travel services for Universities, religious groups, sports teams, professional associations and government officials, all authorized by the Office of Foreign Assets and Control.

On the heels of the Clinton Administration authorized expansion of direct flights from Miami, Los Angeles and New York in August 1999, Cuba Travel Services, Inc. inaugurated their first weekly direct flight from Los Angeles to Cuba out of LAX in February 2000. In addition to weekly direct charter flights from Los Angeles to Cuba, Cuba Travel Services, Inc. opened offices in Miami in 2001, providing direct flights to Cuba from Miami and travel services to better serve qualified travelers in that region. Cuba Travel Services, Inc. is also an Allied Member of ASTA.

Cuba Travel Services, Inc. was formed by a group of Los Angeles business professionals to specifically facilitate a better understanding between the U.S. and Cuba in providing convenient and cost-effective travel to U.S. citizens who qualify under the current U.S. Treasury regulations under OFAC.
