CEU Norway upcoming Cuba tours

The Norwegian chapter of C.E.U. - Council for European Urbanism - http://www.ceunet.org -  invites you to join a one week study tour of three Cuban cities and UNESCO World Heritage Sites; Havana, Cienfuegos and Trinidad,  1 - 8 March 2008.

The tour will be followed by an optional one week charrette in Old Havana and the neighboring town of Casablanca,  9 - 15 March 2008.

STUDY TOUR, 1 - 8 MARCH 2008

Repeating the success of our 2007 event, the one week 2008 Tour will include an introduction to the history of urbanism and architecture in Havana, a seminar on the regeneration of Old Havana, and a 3 day bus tour to two smaller historic towns, Trinidad and Cienfuegos.

Our expert guide will be Prof. Julio Cesar Perez, Faculty of Architecture, Havana. Prof. Perez has been a speaker at several INTBAU and C.E.U. conference, is a Loeb Fellow at Harvard Graduate School of Design 2001- 2002 and adjunct Professor at the School of Architecture in Havana. He has lectured widely in the US and Europe on Cuban architecture.

CHARRETTE,  9 - 15 MARCH, 2008

International architects and planners are invited to join Cuban experts, including Prof. Julio Cesar Perez, and community representatives for a one week Charrette Workshop to develop ideas for the development of the waterfront sector of the Old Havana Harbor, and for Casablanca, a small marine town across from Old Havana with 5,000 inhabitants, founded in 1780.

2007 TOUR AND CHARRETTE - REPORT

Our 2007 events had a total of 40 participants (27 for the the tour and 25 for the Charrette, with many participating in both events), coming from UK, US, Canada,  Norway, Sweden and Turkey.

We had participants from US for both the tour and workshop in 2007. Due to the American trade embargo, US citizens wanting to travel to Cuba will need to travel under either a general or a specific license.
