Due to increased demand that flooded into Cuba Travel Services, Inc. offices on the heels of the Obama Administration lifting travel restrictions on Cuban Americans, Cuba Travel Services, Inc. will be launching its first non-stop weekly flight from LAX to Havana starting June 30, 2009.
Departing on Tuesdays at 11:00 am Cuba Travel Services, Inc. will be utilizing aircraft operated by Continental Airlines.

Chicago-based travel site launches Web campaign seeking to overturn the U.S. government’s longtime travel restrictions to Cuba
Blending commerce with politics, Chicago’s Orbitz Worldwide is launching a campaign this week aimed at getting Congress to reverse a law that prohibits travel to Cuba for most U.S. citizens and green-card holders.
Starting Sunday through OpenCuba.org, Orbitz visitors can petition the White House, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and members of Congress to eliminate the decades-old trade and travel restrictions.

At the International Trade Fair in Cuba this week, the wealthy Persian Gulf nation of Qatar announced that the Qatar Diar Real Estate Investment Company will build the the five star “Gran Paraiso” hotel on Cayo Largo, a small tourist island off the south coast of Cuba.
This hotel may be under construction in 2010 and open in 2012 with up to 450 rooms and 60 luxury villas.

AirTran Airways wants to be one of the first airlines to operate scheduled flights into Cuba if restrictions on tourism to the country are eased, said AirTran Chief Executive Robert Fornaro.
“It’s a very pretty country and the curiosity level as well as the ethnic flying back and forth is going to be substantial,” Fornaro said. “I think it’s going to be a very, very strong leisure destination.”
AirTran is based in Orlando, and has its largest hub in Atlanta. It also flies daily in and out of Palm Beach and Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood international airports.

Air charter operators offering flights to Cuba said Monday that they are ready and willing to ramp up service if passenger demand rises—and they expect it will.
With President Obama’s lifting of travel restrictions, a Cuban American can now take a 45-minute flight to visit relatives in Cuba at any time for about $500 per round trip.

Traveling to Cuba: between good intentions and poor taste
People who say: “I’d like to go to Cuba before it changes” do not mean to be insulting. They may even have good intentions. They only want to see 50’s Buicks and Fords that seem right out of a Twilight Zone episode, as a retired professor who wore a black beret à la Che Guevara told me. They want to swim in (allegedly) unpolluted waters. And in most cases, they are willing to help the natives. The Venceremos Brigade has announced their 40th Anniversary Contingent Travel Challenge to Cuba that will be a trip to Cuba from July 19 to August 3, 2009.
It is designed to defy the US travel restrictions on Americans’ rights of travel to Cuba and there are only about 25 spaces left for participants out of 100.
