I am an anti-Embargo Republican from Massachusetts.
The Embargo is anti-American since it limits OUR freedom of trade and travel.
It is a 50+ year old failed “Plan A” to get rid of the Castro brothers and will not work next year or the year after that.
Mauricio Claver-Carone’s anti-American US Cuba PAC does nothing to promote democracy in Cuba and only serves to continue to restrict all Americans’ rights of trade and travel.
I welcome the opportunity to expose all who are tied to this organization. I was reading an article by William Vidal titled “Cuba PAC sell access to keep failed embargo alive” with this first paragraph.
Today the US- Cuba Democracy PAC had their annual fundraising luncheon at the Biltmore Hotel. These days, since it’s increasingly difficult for them to raise money in support of the embargo, they change the focus of the event to “honoring” our elected leaders. A veritable who’s who of mostly Republican businessmen and women pay up to $10,000 per table not because they really support the positions of the PAC, but for the opportunity to schmooze it up with the Cuban-American stars of the Senate, such as Marco Rubio, Ted Cruz, and that rascally rabbit, Bob Menendez. The honorees take the podium and recite the tired old talking points “lifting the embargo would be a unilateral concession, blah blah, Cuba won’t change until the last Castro is out of government, blah blah, God bless America!” K-ching, k-ching. With this money, the PAC continues to stall any effort in Capitol Hill to open up to Cuba, hoping the embargo will make conditions inside the island so desperate that the Castro regime will come crashing down at the hands of the starved masses and democracy will rise from the ashes.
I found this article to be very informative so I elaborated on it to include this information below. Here is the information about the fund raising event:
You are cordially invited to the US Cuba Democracy PAC’s 10th Annual Luncheon honoring history’s four Cuban American Senators
with special guests
Congresswomen Ileana Ros-Lehtinen
Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart
Congresman Albio Sires
Former Commerce Secretary Carlos Gutierrez
Former Congressman Lincoln Diaz-Balart
Friday March 8, 2013 at the Biltmore Hotel in Coral Gables Florida.
$1,500 to $10,000 per table.
The article links over to OpenSecrets.org summary of US Cuba Democracy PAC money raised and money spent. I have summarized the information below.
Total donations received in 2012 was $426,643 by just over 100, what I like to call anti-American pro-Embargo donors.

US Cuba PAC Federal Election Commission Statement
The U.S.-Cuba Democracy PAC (“the PAC”) is a small administrative operation.
Most of the PAC’s activities are conducted on a non-compensated, volunteer basis, as it involves individuals that are personally—not professionally—committed to its objectives.
Strictly within the limitations provided by federal law, the PAC strives to keep its expenses to a minimum. Non-administrative expenses, such as PAC-only fundraising events, materials and activities, are promptly and accurately disclosed each reporting period.
The following further clarifies some of the PAC’s administrative expenses:
1. Rent: The PAC does not currently rent any physical office space. The PAC has a U.S. Postal Service Box in Hialeah, FL, which it uses as its mailing address. The cost of this P.O. Box is paid for directly by the PAC. The PAC maintains an additional mailing address from the UPS Store at 2020 Pennsylvania Ave., N.W., Washington, D.C. A rate of $180 is paid for this space—by means of an individual in-kind contribution—on a six-month basis.
2. Salaries: As previously mentioned, most of the activities of individuals involved with the PAC are conducted on a personal, non-compensated, volunteer basis. The public accounting firm of Morrison, Brown, Argiz, and Farra, LLP, provides in-kind accounting services to ensure the PAC’s compliance with the provisions of the Federal Election Campaign Act, and is promptly and accurately disclosed.
3. Other Administrative Expenses: Other outsourced administrative expenses, including—but not limited to—graphic design (Mastercom, Inc.), credit card processing (Americart and Bank of America), printing and supplies (Sir Speedy and 12th Avenue Graphics), and website and email maintenance (Burnette Solutions) are specifically disclosed and settled as operating expenses of the PAC. Additionally, all PAC-only mailings (U.S. Postal Service and FedEx expenses) are specifically reflected, whether paid for in-kind or directly by the PAC.
