The Cuban Research Institute cordially invites you to a lecture by Rafael Rojas - The Current Cuban Constitution: Facilitator or Obstacle to Reform?

Leaders of the Catholic Church, academics, intellectuals, members of the Cuban diaspora and the dissident movement inside the Island seem to agree on the need of a new constitution in order to provide an appropriate legal framework for future changes.

How “up to date” is the current Cuban Constitution and how does it compare with those of other countries in the region? is the question that Rafael Rojas, a leading Cuban historian will answer for us.

The lecture will be held on Wednesday August 10, 2011 at 7:00 pm at the FIU Modesto A. Maidique Campus, MARC International Pavilion. Use the FIU entrance at SW 16th St. and 107th Ave.

Dr. Rafael Rojas Ph.D. is the Director of the Department of History, Center for Research and Teaching of Economics (CIDE), Mexico. He is the author of various prize winning texts on the intellectual and political history of Mexico, Cuba, and Latin America.

His most recent books include:

“El estante vacío.

Literatura y política en Cuba” (Barcelona, Anagrama, 2009) and “Las repúblicas de aire.

Utopía y desencanto en Hispanoamérica” (Madrid, Taurus, 2010).

He is also a contributor to the recently released compilation “El Otro Paredón: asesinatos de reputación en Cuba” (Eriginal Books, Miami, 2011).

The event will be in Spanish and is free and open to the public.
