John McCaslin from the Inside the Beltway column at the Washington Times is quoting Retired Major Andy Messing Jr, US Army Special Forces that President Obama will visit Key West in May and will then announce the removal of certain travel restrictions to Cuba.

Mr. Messing, who is also on the Board of the National Defense Council Foundation, says “The White House is making preparations to announce the changes with the Cuba visitation policy”.

Earlier this month, the Monroe County Tourist Development Council issued a 10-page marketing plan that includes a “Keys plus Cuba” advertising campaign that will be targeted to visitors to the Keys who are also curious about Cuba.

The Council would use “highly targeted” media to reach Florida Keys “prime prospects” who are might be enticed by trips to Cuba, especially if President Obama eases travel restrictions for all Americans with regards to travel to Cuba.

The plan would encourage tourists to stay at Keys hotels while taking day trips by ferry or plane to Cuba.

Well, still love the Santa Clara region.  One of the most beautiful beaches in the world.  And Cuba, a lovely country even though it is incredibly poor; would love to see the old homes restored. Can’t wait to return!

The White House is denying a newspaper report published Wednesday that said President Barack Obama plans a visit to Key West to announce changes to Cuba travel policy.

The Washington Times’ Inside the Beltway column reported that Obama would visit Key West this spring, and would use the opportunity to announce the ``removal of certain travel restrictions to Cuba.’‘

White House spokeswoman Gannet Tseggai said no such trip is planned.

The Times had attributed the information to Andy Messing Jr., a retired army major in Key West.
