Cuba has wanted dissident Luis Posada Carriles for years
The US has denied that it is harbouring a Cuban exile accused by President Fidel Castro of plotting to kill him.

The top diplomat for Latin America said he did not even know if Luis Posada Carriles was in the US.

Mr Posada Carriles is also wanted in Venezuela over the bombing of a Cuban airliner in 1976, in which 73 people were killed. He has denied involvement.

He reportedly entered the US some weeks ago after months in hiding and was said to be seeking asylum there.

On Tuesday the Venezuelan Supreme Court ruled that Caracas should seek his extradition as he is a Venezuelan citizen.

“I don’t even know that he is in the United States,” state department official Roger Noriega said.

Cuban claims about Mr Posada Carriles “may be a completely manufactured issue”, he added.

Mr Posada Carriles once boasted of being responsible for a series of bomb attacks on Havana tourist spots in the 1990s.

Five years ago, he was arrested in Panama and accused of plotting to kill Mr Castro during a summit there.

He was convicted of a lesser charge, but was later pardoned and freed by the outgoing Panamanian president - causing Cuba to break off diplomatic relations.

He has been in hiding since then.

US Government to US citizens:

“There are weapons of mass destruction in Iraq”
“Luis Posada is not in the US”

First they says “We are not lying to you.” Then they say “We had bad intelligence”.

Lies or incompetence? Which is more dangerous?

DO YOU TRUST THE BUSH ADMINISTRATION?

Don’t get me wrong I am/have been a Republican. I am certainly not a Liberal democrat from Massachusetts but PLEASE Mr. Bush, start making some sense.

OK, so Posada is in, say, Coral Gables but not Miami.

But not in the USA?  Give us break!  His own lawyer said he was in the USA.

I think they’re just trying to play the avoidance game, throw the ball back in PC’ court. After all, if he’ “not in the U.S.”, he can’t apply for asylum. He’ll just have to keep hiding in Miami until he figures out what his next move is. Cuban-American politics, gotta love it, lol!  wink

Perhaps they are telling the truth.  Perhaps he was in the USA but isn’t now because they just sent him off on another terrorist mission, a freebie for the USA as a kind of loyalty test.

Stranger things have happened.

Most probably he is back in El Salvador, a pawn country recently visited by Condo on her quick and sudden return trip south of the Rio Grande. No doubt Condo did her very educated and sophisticated mouth work, a very specialized field which she effectively used in the past, particularly during the months of her denoucing of Iraq’ WMD. On her trip south, the people there gave her the name “La Dama Imperial”. Wonder why?
