THE US Congress has dealt an election-season setback to George Bush by voting to overturn restrictions his administration had issued on the gift parcels Americans can send to family members in Cuba.

The vote would block new rules that took effect on July 1 barring people from shipping clothing, seeds, veterinary medicine and soap-making ingredients to Cubans.

The new US Commerce Department rules meant no items at all could be shipped to people who are not immediate relatives.

I love politics.

One side approves measures and the other side de-funds the governing agency.

Not all American Cubans want to send money and items to friends and family in Cuba. Many of us know that if we send anything of value over too there, Castro will confinsate it.

not true.
and obviously you have no loved ones over there.
either that or you have no clue as to the conditions they have to endure.
unfortunately our help is needed now, not after this embargo has had a chance to take hold and drive Fidel to his knees…  forty five years??? anything less than sending aid is spiteful and inhumane. there are eleven million starving people over there, i wish you people would stop going through them to get to one lunatic.
