(Bogota, Colombia-AP)—A Colombian leader says Fidel Castro’s health seems to be failing.

Bogota’s mayor (Luis Eduardo Garzon) met the Cuban leader a few weeks ago while on a vacation on the island.

The mayor says the 77-year-old “seemed very sick.” The former communist union organizer tells Colombian radio that Castro “had physical limitations, especially in his speech.”

Rumors about Castro’s health spread regularly—especially among Cuban exiles.

Castro has been in power for 45 years, making him the world’s longest-ruling head of government.
