Cuba has for the first time denounced the use of Guantanamo Bay military base in the south-east of the island as a detention centre for hundreds of people suspected by the United States of links to the Taliban and Al Qaeda.

A statement by the Cuban parliament describes the base as a concentration camp where the prisoners are subjected to what it calls indescribable humiliations.

It says the prisoners are isolated without access to appropriate legal defence or communication with their families.
