Vietnam’s National Assembly Chairman An begins Cuba visit

Chairman Nguyen Van An of Vietnam’s National Assembly and his wife arrived in Havana, Cuba, on August 2, beginning a five-day visit to the Caribbean country.

Mr An, who heads a NA senior official delegation, was welcomed at the Jose Marti International Airport by his Cuban counterpart, Ricardo Alarcon, and other Cuban parliament and government officials.

On August 3, Chairman An, who is also a Party Politburo member, and his entourage visited Varadero tourist site in Matanzas province, about 130 east from Havana.

Before his departure, Mr An expressed his belief that the visit would help take the friendship, solidarity and co-operation between Vietnam and Cuba to a new height.

“My visit will help promote economic co-operation between the two countries to match their existing strong political ties,” Mr An said in an interview with Hanoi-based Cuban news agency Prensa Latina correspondents. (VNA)
