U.N. IN-FIDEL-ITY ON CUBA

Nothing makes me feel more at ease with the treatment of oppressed peoples in the world community than to know that Cuba has been reelected by the United Nations to the international Human Rights Commission (“Fidel’s Useful Idiots,” Editorial, May 8).
If Stalin were alive, he could probably be elected chairman.

The United Nations shows itself to be more useless and more ridiculous by the day. The latest glaring examples of this are the reelection of Cuba to the Human Rights Commission and the elimination of the SARS-related travel warning for Toronto by the World Health Organization, an offshoot of the U.N.

It’s really not that surprising that the commission, chaired by Libya, would want Cuba to remain a working partner to its farce. However, the WHO’s equally nonsensical bowing to political pressure to withdraw the travel warning for Toronto, where the SARS death rate is second only to China, sadly demonstrates, that the nut does not fall far from the tree.

Just when you thought it was safe to go back into the the water, the United Nations once again enters the theater of the absurd. This time, Cuba has been brought back into the top U.N. human rights committee.

Why do we belong to this silly organization - and allow its headquarters to exist in our largest city?

Hi
Saw a comment from Joe Mulvanerton. I am a Mulvanerton and wonder if he is a Mulvanerton from Jersey City.
