WASHINGTON | AP—The New York Yankees paid the government $75,000 to settle a dispute that it conducted business in Cuba in violation of a long-standing U.S. embargo, according to documents released Friday.

The Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control, which enforces the embargo and other economic sanctions the United States imposes, recently began disclosing penalties assessed or payments made as part of settlements involving violations of economic sanctions.

The documents provide few details. The Yankees’ case involved “a contract in which Cuba has an interest,” the documents said.

The New York baseball club had no immediate comment, Yankees spokesman Ben Tuliebitz said.
