New York, Nov. 5 (VNA)- Ambassador Nguyen Thanh Chau, Head of the Vietnamese mission to the UN, said on Tuesday that Viet Nam would vote for a UN resolution demanding US lift its four-decade long embargo against Cuba.
Chau told a session on the issue held at the UN Headquarters that the UN should take concrete initiatives and concrete measures to translate the potential resolution into reality once it is passed in order to put an end to all hostile policies and activities against Cuba.
The longer the embargo lasts, the more the Cuban people, especially women and children, will suffer, emphasized the Chau was critical of the US sanction against Cuba as a world record for its duration, that has caused 72 billion USD worth of damage to the island country’s economy in all fields.
He took the opportunity to reaffirm Viet Nam’s position that the dispute between the US and Cuba should be solved through dialogues and negotiations on the principles of respecting each other’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and non-interference into each other’s internal affairs.
