Cuba News and Information

You might wonder what this post is all about? Well, the original title is “Fidel Castro Delegate to CDR Congress” from Prensa Latina but what struck me about the wording is the title of Fidel Castro. As you read below, Fidel Castro is not referred to as former President but as “historic leader of the Cuban Revolution”.

I read this as his new title. A title that is much more glorious than a simple “former President” but more importantly I read this as being the absolute first mention of Fidel in the historic sense.

Here’s the text of the article:

The historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, and President Raul Castro were elected direct delegates to the seventh Congress of the Committees for the Defense of the Revolution (CDR), the country’s largest network of neighborhood block associations.

The decision was made Saturday during the first provincial assembly in Cienfuegos, as the previous step to the Congress this year, according to Juventud Rebelde daily.

CDR National Coordinator Juan Jose Rabilero said the preparations for the meeting show how its over 8 million members are raising awareness on their role to defend the Revolution.

The participants at the assembly praised the role of the CDR affiliates in fighting corruption and irregularities, and in surveillance tasks.

What do you think? Is this Fidel’s new title for all eternity… dead or alive?

Well, I half-expected him to get something grandiloquent like that. The article also mentions him BEFORE the current president.

What’s the point of nominating him to this Congress? He will not make it anyway. I am sure he will write an apology for not being able to attend in one of his columns.

I think they do it so he’s kept in the loop
