Supermodel Naomi Campbell has succeeded where veteran broadcaster Sir David Frost failed - and bagged an interview with Cuba’s reclusive president Fidel Castro.

The 37-year-old catwalk queen, who has become a celebrity political reporter for a men’s magazine, met the 80-year-old Communist leader last week.

Her spokesman said: “Naomi is a very bright woman. She has access to fantastic contacts - and she’s a really good interviewer.”

Naomi first met Castro in Havana in 1998, when she and fellow model Kate Moss spent 90 minutes with him.

She later compared the aging dictator to Nelson Mandela, saying “These two men are an inspiration to everyone. They have fought with integrity to stick to their beliefs.”

Naomi also interviewed Castro’s ally, Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, last month.

I find this hard to believe.

First, no one else is reporting it.

Second, I doubt that Fidel is going to meet with Naomi Campbell.

Third, the story says she met with him last week.

So, I figured I’d post this in case there is some truth in there but my take on this is that the reporter Richard Cooper is lying, ignorant or mistaken.

If you don’t see any more posts about this, then I’m right about Mr. Cooper.

Is Naomi planning to meet such Cuban opposition figures as Oscar Elias Biscet or Vladimiro Roca?

She probably doesn’t know them and wouldn’t know what to say if she ever did meet them.

She would probably say, Why don’t you like Fidel’s national healthcare and free food?
