The President of the Cuban Parliament Ricardo Alarcon said in Havana that this year’s elections will be a political victory for the Caribbean nation.

The Cuban official spoke Wednesday during the swearing in ceremony of the members of the National Electoral Commission, charged with organizing the April 17 Municipal elections.

Alarcon compared the coming elections with the success of December’s “Bastion 2004” military defense exercises in which the Cuban people actively showed Washington that it rejects all insults like its so-called Transition Plan for a Free Cuba issued last May.

He emphasized that the elections represent a way to continue resisting US hostility and constitute a statement in the defense of Cuba’s independence.
