Cuba’s Defense Minister Raul Castro will pay a working visit to Russia in the middle of May, RIA Novosti learnt from diplomatic sources in Moscow.
Raul Castro is the junior brother of the Cuban leader, Fidel Castro.
The visit is not due to the festivities to be held in the Russian capital on the 60th anniversary of Victory in World War II, the source said.
“Invitations to the festivities on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of Victory in the second world war have been sent, from among the countries of the Western Hemisphere, to only the United States and Canada, which have participated in routing Nazism”, the source said.
As regards the possibility of Fidel Castro’s visit to Russia in the foreseeable future, the interviewee recalled that the Cuban leader already has an invitation to Russia, handed over by Russian President Vladimir Putin during his official visit to Cuba in December 2000.
