Cuban First Vice President of the State Council and the Council of Ministers Raul Castro on Saturday praised the development of the traditional friendship, solidarity and co-operation between Viet Nam and Cuba.
The Cuban Party and State have always attached importance to the co-operation in national defence and security with Viet Nam, said Castro, who is also second secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba’s Central Committee and minister of the Revolutionary Armed Forces, in remarks to Vietnamese Minister of Public Security Le Hong Anh.
Anh, who is also politburo member of the Communist Party of Viet Nam’s Central Committee, asked his host to convey regards to President Fidel Castro from Party General Secretary Nong Duc Manh, President Tran Duc Luong and Prime Minister Phan Van Khai.
The two sides briefed each other on socio-economic development in their respective countries and discussed issues of common concern.
During his week-long visit that began August 31, Anh held talks with Interior Minister Alaberdo Colome Ibarra. They agreed to boost information exchange to combat crime, particularly violations related to drugs and public security. Anh also visited a number of cultural and medical establishments in Havana and Matanzas.
Anh and his delegation paid tribute at the Ho Chi Minh Monument in Havana and attended a gathering in honour of Viet Nam’s National Day, which was organised by the Vietnamese embassy in Cuba.
