I am writing on behalf of the Orion Foundation here in Toronto, Canada. We are a humanitarian relief organization that works on a specific project called the Cuba Project. Harold Hosein has headed up this project for the past five years and it is growing. We ship tanker containers full of vital items such as medical equipment, beds, clothing, bicycles and many other items directly to the Cuban people.
He has established great relationships in Toronto and Cuba to make sure these containers get to the people in need. Currently due to the recent devastation we are sending 4 tanker containers full of beds and blankets…. there are 26 more to go and we would love to have our information posted on your site.
Please feel free to visit our website OrionFoundation.ca

Destructive Storms in Cuba Make Need for Vital Containers More Critical Than Ever

Orion Foundation Granted Permission to Send Containers of Mattresses to Help With Relief Efforts

As hurricanes ravage the Caribbean, Cuba has been left devastated in their wake. Already an impoverished nation, Cuba has been a focus of Canadian charities, like Orion Foundation and Recycle Your Bicycle, for some time. Due to its ongoing relationship with the Cuban Consulate in Canada, Orion has been granted immediate permission to send four forty foot containers of mattresses and clothing to Cuba at this very critical time.

“Although all the contents of the containers have been donated by In-Kind and Canadian Tire has agreed to supply trucks to move the containers to the shipyard, it still costs thousands of dollars to send each container to Cuba,” says well-known Meteorologist / Broadcaster Harold Hosein, who is also associated with Orion Foundation and Recycle Your Bicycle. “To date, the Orion Foundation has been covering the costs, but sending four containers so quickly requires some help from caring Canadians. We are known for our generosity towards the less fortunate in the world. Now it is needed more than ever in Cuba and the Caribbean,” he adds.

There are two simple ways to donate money to help Orion send these much needed containers. The first is through the Orion Foundation’s Cuba Project Bank Account at Bank of Montreal, Davis Drive, Newmarket, Account Number 3956 8198 927. The second is on-line at OrionFoundation.ca, using the source code CUBA to ensure donations go directly to the Cuba Project.

The Orion Foundation is a charitable organization involved in several humanitarian projects, including the Africa Project, which has sent more than $130 million in HIV meds to Sub-Saharan Africa. Working with Recycle Your Bicycle, Orion’s Cuba Project has been responsible for sending containers of vital items, including medical supplies and equipment, clothes and bicycles, to Cuba.

Our Mission: The Orion Foundation is a charity that strives to uphold the miracle of the human struggle to improve life. Often, we find that those that fall through the cracks of society, or even that of our global community of organizations whose goals are to assist those in need, find themselves lost and trapped into a cycle of suffering. Our fundamental goal is to assist those in need.

HELP CUBA’S VICTIMS OF HURRICANE IKE

An open letter to anyone interested in helping Cuba in its time of crisis from Hurricane IKE.

The Orion Foundation and Recycle your Bicycle are Ontario-based charities sending aid to Cuba. Since 2004, twelve 40-foot containers have been sent, three of those in 2008.

We are currently most interested in clothing, shoes, bed linens and children’s toys, to replace just about everything lost in most of Cuba.

There is also a great need for money to aid in shipping these containers.

ALL DONORS OF $50 AND MORE RECEIVE A CHARITABLE RECEIPT FOR TAX PURPOSES.

Please send your cheque donation to The Orion Foundation at the address above, and memo the bottom of your cheque The Cuba Project.

Sponsors may also elect to cover the complete cost of individual containers, in which case we will adorn the container with appropriate signage in favour of the donor, when the container is being loaded, so that any news coverage will be beneficial to the sponsor(s).

The cost of shipping varies with the cost of fuel but will be approximately $4500CAD per container.

If you think you may be able to help, please contact Harold Hosein at 416-716-1663 or via the net or

Sincere thanks for any help you can offer.
