Cuba News and Information

Regarding a message recently received from Havana:

This Sunday afternoon, June first at approximately 7:15 PM, strangers in plain daylight hurled a rock against the front door of the home where my three children, wife and I live. The rock left a dent in my door, with rock fragments in the dent and on the floor. My neighbors witnessed the attack.

It is not the first time an attack has been made against my home – a home that is monitored day and night by State Security and their informants from nearby houses, possibly with video cameras and other means. They track who enters and exits my home, and in many cases follow and harass those who do.

The interference of State Security is permanent in all aspects of my family’s life. It ranges from cutting my telephone service for weeks, to prohibiting me from working in the hospitals, and threatening doctors and hospitals when they realize any of us has been treated for being ill.

The perpetrators and supporters of this act once again go from threats and agitation to violent and criminal action that threatens the life of my children and other members of my family. I want to make it clear that we have no problem or conflict with anyone in our neighborhood or anywhere else, and that all aggressions and offenses we have suffered are due to my defense of the rights of Cubans. One need only see the signs and boards surrounding my home, placed and painted by the forces of repression during acts of provocation and repudiation against my family, in an overt and cowardly manner.
