Cuba: UN Vote Against US Trade Embargo A ‘Blow’ To US

HAVANA (AP)--Cuba called the U.N. General Assembly vote urging the U.S. to end its long-standing trade embargo against the island “a political blow” for Washington in state-run media Wednesday.

The Communist Party’s daily newspaper Granma devoted its front page to the Tuesday vote, which marked the 14th straight year that the 191-member world body approved a resolution calling for the trade and travel restrictions against Cuba to be lifted.

“For the 14th consecutive year, the Revolution delivered another political blow to Washington and its criminal and genocidal strategy against our people,” Granma said.

The vote was 182 to four, with one abstention, a higher “yes” vote than last year’s vote of 179-4 with one abstention. The resolution isn’t legally binding.
The U.S., Israel, Palau and the Marshall Islands voted against the resolution, while Micronesia abstained. Four countries didn’t indicate any position at all - El Salvador, Iraq, Morocco and Nicaragua.

Cuban newspapers published the full text of Foreign Minister Felipe Perez Roque’s speech given to the General Assembly in New York as well as remarks by Parliament Speaker Ricardo Alarcon, who told a gathering of government supporters in Havana he thought the embargo would be lifted soon.

“Seventy percent of Cubans have grown up under the embargo, but 100% will live to see the day it is buried forever,” Alarcon said.

PLANET EARTH HAS SPOKEN!
Would the Intransigent Giant to the North comply or ignore? In the past Goliat not only did not ignore, but forcefully used other UN resolutions to justify many of its past actions such as its dirty war on Iraq. Would the Two-Party-Democracy be shown to the world as Hypocritic and Double Standard and backfire once more? Would the arrogance and incompetency of its leaders prevail again? Its credibility is on the line, but does it care? PLANET EARTH HAS AGAIN SPOKEN!
