Special Live Cuba Conference Call

Preliminary Analysis of the Impact of Hurricanes Gustav and Ike

On Wednesday, October 8th the Cuba Business Roundtable at the Institute for Cuban and Cuban-American Studies, at the University of Miami, will conduct its quarterly live public telephone conference call hosted by ICCAS Cuba experts and special guests.

This conference call series explores the challenges and opportunities that businesses will encounter in a post-Castro, post-embargo Cuba. The series is designed to help business executives, attorneys, and other professionals keep up-to-date on Cuban events relevant to business opportunities in a post-Castro, post-embargo Cuba.

The live conference call will begin promptly at 11:30 AM.  Please call today at (305) 284 – 2822 to RSVP for the conference call and obtain the conference call number, as there will be a limited number of access lines (Some AT&T charges may apply).

Conferees:

Dr. Jaime Suchlicki, Director, Institute for Cuban and Cuban-American Studies, and Professor of History at the University of Miami.  Dr. Suchlicki was the founding Executive Director of the North-South Center.  He is a highly regarded consultant to both the private and the public sector regarding Cuba and Latin American affairs.  He is the author of Cuba: from Columbus to Castro and Beyond.   

Dr. José Azel, Director of the Cuba Business Roundtable at the Institute for Cuban and Cuban-American Studies, University of Miami.  Dr. Azel was an Adjunct Professor of International Business at the School of Business Administration, Department of Management, University of Miami.  He has a comprehensive general management background integrating broad functional experience in corporate governance, organizational development, and finance.

Nicolás J. Gutiérrez, Jr., Esq. is the managing partner at Borgognoni & Gutiérrez, LLP.  Mr. Gutiérrez concentrates his practice in providing legal counsel to international clients with an emphasis on Latin America.  He has extensive experience in corporate, governmental relations, confiscated property claims, international trade, and financing and asset control regulatory matters. He is President and Director of the National Association of Sugar Mill Owners of Cuba.

Manny J. Rodriguez is the Director of External Affairs of FPL for the Miami-Dade region. Mr. Rodriguez received a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from University of Miami and a MBA from FIU. Mr. Rodriguez was awarded “The 1982 Engineer of the Year Award” by the Association of Cuban Engineers. He serves in the Executive Committee of the Hialeah Chamber of Commerce and is a member of the Board of The Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce.
