WASHINGTON - The Executive Board of the Cuban American National Foundation is pleased to announce the appointment of Camila Ruiz as Director of the Foundation’s Washington, D.C. office. Ms. Ruiz will be responsible for working with the Executive and Legislative branches of the Federal government, the national media, and the business, NGO, think tank, and academic communities.
Ms. Ruiz is a veteran of Capitol Hill, having worked both on the staff of the International Relations Committee of the House of Representatives and on the personal staff of Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen. She also has experience with NGOs focused on state and local initiatives.
Ms. Ruiz will replace Ambassador Dennis Hays, who leaves the Foundation next month after three years to pursue further personal career interests.
Hays stated, “I have been privileged to work with the dedicated men and women of the Foundation to advance the cause of freedom and dignity for the people of Cuba. I am particularly pleased to have been able to help shift the focus of policy onto how best to support the brave individuals inside Cuba who struggle for human rights against incredible odds.”
The Chairman of CANF, Jorge Mas Santos, said: “While at CANF, Ambassador Hays made very significant contributions to the cause of a free Cuba. He is a friend that will be missed. In whatever capacity he chooses to continue to serve the cause of freedom, he will do it with honor. We wish him the best.”
