“las princesas de José Marti” - original acrylic - 30” X 48”

Havana, Cuba - after the smaller study, “el dia de las pequenas princesas”, here is the final painting. One day when I was in Matanzas, the streets were full of school children, on parade, singing songs, and generally just having a good time being children.

And, once in a while, while i was walking , i would see some young girls in very elegant ballroom/prom gowns walking the muddy streets. ..the contrast in the brilliant sunlight, between the decaying buildings and old cars was quite striking….i spotted these two young girls from afar and waited until they came into the sunlight…in the final version the young ladies from Matanzas are now walking the streets of Havana ....as for the dresses, they are surely from the time of their grandmother, before the revolution…a time when Havana was the capital of elegance, decadence and excess…
