  1. That picture brought a lot of memories.  Across from the church was the park. There waw a bench (one of many) directly across from the church, in the corner, where we used to wait for the school bus that took us to the American Central School outside Nueva Gerona (I forgot the name of the road where the school was as well as the streets where the church & park were.  I lived at the hotel downtown, right across the drugstore owned by the then mayor who had a young teenage son. They were my father’s friends. I have the best memories of my life in that place. Would have given anything if things had remained the same.  Nostalgia…..........

  3. Does anyone out there know and would like to share what happened to the Isle of Pines’ buildings, the American School, Sara Villada Store, Santa Fe Hotel, the Rancho Tesoro resort (developed by Milton Davis & my dad, Armando Diaz, the Hotel downtown on the main street across from the drugstore/home of the mayor, Pedrito & family, the Casa Manana Hotel, the Hilltop motel & Club where I learned how to rock’n'roll to Tutti Frutti, Wake up Little Susie, etc.?
I would love to hear from old friends, school mates from American School, etc.

  4. I lived at the Casa Mañana Motel in Isla de Pinos for about a year when my parents (George and Arla Gibbs) were managing it for the owners, the Bob Bryce family.  My sister attended the American school.  At the time I was working at El Colony Hotel….Is the Casa Mañana still there?  Many wonderful memories of dancing on the rooftop at Casa Mañana, right by the Nueva Gerona River where we also learned to waterski… Yoly, do you remember the time there was a bridal shower at Rancho El Tesoro and all the young ladies all dressed up got on the bridge that was over the swimming pool for a photo and the bridge collapsed and everyone fell into the water….?

  6. Sonia, I certainly remember the unexpected swim! That was funny after all was said and done. It cooled us off, that is for sure. Too many pounds on that little “bridge”!! Back then I my weight was only about 90-95lbs. There were just too many others.
