ONE hundred delegates from 28 European countries meeting in Italy for the Continental Conference of Cuba Solidarity Organizations, have demanded freedom for the Cuban Five, the anti-terrorist fighters imprisoned in the United States since 1998.

The Special Declaration of the conference, meeting in the Italian city of Terni, Umbria, has been sent to the European Parliament, political and administrative bodies of the European Union, national parliaments and the governments of the nations represented at the conference.

The text refers to the dignity of Gerardo Hernández, Ramón Labañino, Antonio Guerrero, Fernando González and René González, who have all been incarcerated for 10 years for trying to prevent acts of terrorism plotted in southern Florida with Washington’s complicity.

The document condemns the delaying maneuvers of the U.S. government, aimed at preventing the Five from being released, as part of that government’s aggressive and genocidal anti-Cuba policies.

The declaration also condemns the United States for protecting self-confessed criminals like Luis Posada Carriles and Orlando Bosch, who are freely walking the streets of Miami in the state of Florida, AIN reports.
