A very short statement written by Fidel Castro and read on Cuban television Monday evening strongly suggests that Fidel Castro is ready to step away from his position as President of Cuba saying

“My elemental duty is not to hold on to positions and less to obstruct the path of younger people”

Those may seem like simple words but it makes sense paving the way for Carlos Lage to step in as President and Raul Castro to step out of power.

Also, it’s possible that this short message could be Fidel Castro’s last wish meaning that he may be unable to write much more and close to death. He may see that the end is near and is doing what he can to ensure the smooth transition of power in Cuba.
