The port of Cienfuegos, in the central Cuban province of the same name, handled 150 ships in 2007.

According to preliminary statistics, during the said period, 1,200,435 tons of cargo were handled at the port.

That achievement resulted from the hard work of stevedores, crane operators, technicians and executives at the port, which is run by the Empresa de Servicios Portuarios del Centro (ESPC).

Other factors that contributed to achieving that goal were the arrival of more ships and improved working conditions. A 100-ton crane will be installed soon to handle heavy cargo.

Increased port operations resulted in a 20-percent economic growth in the province, compared to 2006, and a 7-percent increase in last year’s plan.
